Bedsit Games is an indie game developer from Brighton, and is home to Paupers' Ladder. I've been designing games since 2012, and started with BN1: A Board Game All About Brighton, an adventure all about my home town.

I'll be showcasing my new titles; Paupers' Ladder 2nd edition and the solo mint tin game The Crows of Coppershell Bay. I'll also have a prototype of my upcoming game Twittens.

In Paupers' Ladder, players are a pauper in Garolium's tournament. Along with your bird companion, explore the wild and treacherous land of Brighthelm as you strive to learn three of the five virtues: generosity, fellowship, bravery, knowledge, and magnificence. Battle a bestiary of creatures, undertake quests, find ingredients to craft powerful recipes, and discover the sights and wonders of an exciting new world along the way. But beware! You're not the only pauper in town. the land of Brighthelm is illustrated with a playing board and over 400 cards depicting equipment, quests, recipes, monsters, ingredients, encounters, cities, villages and more besides.

On your turn you use both your Pauper and your Bird, in either order. Each character may move from the Region they occupy into any adjoining Region, or stay where they are. Paupers’ can pay to travel extra Regions. Your character now explores the Region they occupy.

The aim of Paupers’ Ladder is to learn any 3 of the 5 Virtues. Virtues are learned in different ways. For instance, you learn the Virtue of generosity by discarding a certain amount of gems from your purse. When a player has learned 3 Virtues, they have won the game.

You were desperate and you were foolish. You borrowed 50 gems from the infamous Crows gang and now they want it back, with interest, within 3 days. You're a lowly skinner at the local maggot farm, there's no way you'll earn that kind of money in time, and the Crows aren't known for their flexibility.

Fortunately, there's gems waiting for someone with the right amount of skill, ambition and luck. You could go fishing at the beach and sell your haul to the local fishermen or forage in the glade for ingredients and craft exotic brews. You could scavenge in the local dump for materials to make tools or shoplift from the market.

If you're feeling lucky the carnival has come to town. If you're feeling brave the miner's guild has no shortage of quests that need completing in the nearby pits.

This solo adventure game is the first in a planned series of Small Tin Tale games. It takes place in Brighthelm, the world first brought to life in Paupers' Ladder.

“A piece of pure magical perfection”

Twittens is an old Sussex word to describe the little alleyways and lanes that run between houses and fields. They thread their way through towns and suburbs like veins, walled by red bricks, garden fencing and rusted chicken wire. Elsewhere they're known as ginnels, snicks and vennels.

Twittens is a tile laying game for 1-5 players, set in an everyday English suburb. Work your way through the seasons exploring your local twittens, discovering their houses, wildlife, allotments, playgrounds, railways and electrical substations. Complete your wanderings and get home in time for tea.
