Basically Wooden: basically ingenious!
One of the wonderful things about gamers and gaming companies is how very community minded they can be.
We would like to share this story from Sue and Andrew Garrett of Basically Wooden about how they have been not only maintaining a business during these peculiar times, but also using their skills to help the wider community:
"March 2020 lockdown - we still had orders coming in but were anxious about spending time at the workshop especially as we no idea of what this virus meant.
We spent about three weeks doing one or two days cutting in the workshop then rest of the time at home assembling the finished products.
The news was full of the shortage of PPE for the NHS.
As a manufacturer we contacted the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital to see if we could help in any way.
This is actually a long story, but in brief - we were put in touch with a local fundraising group - PPE4Exeter - who crowdfunded to buy the materials for face shields - and Basically Wooden did the laser cutting for free - approx 5000 face shields!
Once the initial shortage was sorted, Andrew designed our own Basically Wooden Face Shield which proved hugely popular.
So apart from the initial 3 weeks spent at home in-between visits to the workshop, we have managed to continue all through the pandemic - it’s just Andrew and Sue in the workshop and 2 homeworkers who take stuff home to be assembled.
We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to continue working and it goes without saying that we are so grateful to our customers, old and new, who continue to support Basically Wooden".
