At the UKGE
UK Games Expo has been host to 2 keen and occasionally bewildered teens from a local school. This is Toby and Tyler's report:
This week we did our work experience at the UK Games Expo!
We were given challenging tasks throughout the week, but at the end of each day we played a game. On the first day we played Ticket to Ride and had to teach Tyler how to play the game. The next day we played Dominion and Tyler won and then we played The Mind. For Wednesday we played Catan, but never got to finish the game. Then finally on Thursday we played a short session of Pathfinder.
However, this did not come without sacrifice.
On Monday we had to repair some broken PCs which was some what fun, we had to repair them under supervision and were able to get four of the seven working again.
On the second day, we had to make a basic code in php. This was difficult as we had only used Python previously. After watching a few tutorials and with some help we were able to get it working. We had to take in two strings and then connect them and print them back out. We also had to portray the amount of words and characters used in the two strings
After we finished the code, we were given the exciting task of tagging images. This was a very slow process of clicking tags and clicking in the same area for a while.
The next day was better as we were given a marketing task. We had to describe what we had to do over the past few days and make them into games to make them more entertaining with a reward at the end.
We’ve worked hard and played hard!
