A Preview of Game Plan
UKGE Visit new Board Game Exhibition
Last night we were pleased to have been invited to attend the Preview night of this new exhibition of the history of the board game at V&A Museum of Childhood.
On display were lots of games from childhood like Buckaneer and older ones right back to Sennet. Modern games like Catan and Pandemic got a look in too. Indeed Pandemic designer, Matt Leacock was guest of honour and gave the address.
Matt was not the only Expo attendee present. We saw many familiar faces too such as Rob Harris from Playtest, Chris BIrch from Modiphius, Tony Boydell of Surprised Stare Games and Becky Ottery from Eclectic Games and had a good chat with Matt too,
We even picked up an idea or two for Expo from the display!
Our hobby has managed to achieve much visability of late but every bit helps and this exhibition is indeed welcome. It is a good little exhibition of board games and whilst the gamer could always list a dozen favourites not on show it was a good representation of the development of our favourite pastime through the centuries. I was taken back to my childhood with some old memories of games my uncle played or I discovered later..
The whole display was complimented with usful annotations and some great quotes too and I leave you with one.
We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
