Fun for all the Family...

What’s it all about?

So ,another year and both Expo and the Family Zone are back with more space, more to do and more to play than ever. The ‘GO TO’ place for families, the zone this year has several different areas for you to enjoy yourself, testing your gaming skills to the limit and we are confident you will like what you see.

We have a great group of demonstrators here from the Imagination Gaming team  to help teach you anything you see in the zone, give you helpful tips or advice on the games, teach you something new, help you navigate your way through our ‘GAMES MENU’, with its range of starter, main courses and dessert games, letting you know how long they take to play, how many players they need and how long it might take you to play. The team is here to make sure you have the most fun possible so let us know if we can help with anything.

We pride ourselves on making everyone who enters the Zone feel at home and welcome. Let’s take a look at what will make the Family Zone 2018 even more spectacular and special!

Huge range of games

After filling up the ranks last year we will have even more space this year for you to sit and play. In addition to this we will have even more games for you to try out either for the first time or just to revisit some of your favourites.

All of our games in the Family Zone are great for building a variety of skills from maths and literacy to logic and memory! Over the last few months, we’ve introduced some incredible new games from a variety of companies from all over the world that we use regularly in schools and we’re bringing all these with us to this year’s event.

We have a huge range of games in our annual game awards and they will all be available to play here so let us know if you see something in particular you would like to try. Not matter what your age we will have a range suitable for you and your family.
When we attended last year’s Essen game fair we searched high and low for some exciting new additions at the event, and we definitely found them! Some of these games are even exclusive to us in the UK; don’t miss out on the chance to play and purchase these exclusives.

This year, we’ll have a seating area for close to 300 people, so plenty of room to get your game on! Each year, the Zone becomes more popular and we’d love even more people to come and enjoy some games with us. We must stress however that this space is strictly for Family Zone attendees and is not spare game space. All children must also be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Giant games

As well as the usual impressive tabletop game collection, we’ll have your favourite giant games for you to join in with. These were rarely unoccupied last year with families coming together on both the giant Pandemic and Ticket to Ride boards.
Also back this year are the range of giant Gigamic games, after numerous requests to bring them back.
Our knowledgeable team will be more than happy to demonstrate these games and we promise not to get too competitive…(honest!)

Represent your school

This year any child attending UK Games Expo will have the opportunity to represent their school in a series of games challenges. There is no cost and it will simply involve in sitting down and playing a few games and puzzles that we’ve chosen as a challenge. Your scores and progress will be recorded and the school that has the most points from their eager pupils at the end of the event will contacted and prizes be given. Why not come along and see what you can win for your school?

Creative Zone

As well as our main gaming area, we’ll also have our Creative Zone. This area is a little more chilled out and enables you to really get your creative juices flowing. From story writing to designing and making, there’s sure to be something for everyone to get stuck into. We love to showcase the designs and stories by those who visit the Zone, and we’ll have a display board where you can see everyone’s hard work (and maybe get some inspiration!) We will also have some great construction activities this year so if you’re the sort of kid that likes to build, we’ve got you covered!

Young Einsteins
This year we will have a zone for our growing number of very young gamers and will have a terrific range of bright colourful games you won’t be able to wait to get your little paws on. HABA will be supporting this area, along with a few other companies and we’ve tried out the range in schools across the country already so we know the young minds will love trying them out.

The Imagination Gaming Family and Education Game Awards
Just before the event, we’ll be judging our yearly Imagination Gaming Family and Education Awards, and you’ll get to vote for the UKGE Player’s Choice Award! Winners will be announced after the event, so your votes are essential. Vote for your favourite game to win!  If you’d like to see anything specific in this year’s Family Zone or you have any game requests, get in touch! We’d love to know your thoughts and ideas.

Face Painter
We will have a face painter in the zone again this year, and we might even decide to have a go ourselves this time around, so if you have the urge to join in come along and join in the queue.

Need advice?
If you are an exhibitor or game designer/distributor, why not come and chat with us? We’re experts in family games and are more than happy to help, maybe even have a game or two with us!
Are you a family and not sure which game would be right for your child? Want to know which games we feel are best for developing maths skills or a creative mind? Come and talk to us, we would be happy to help.

Have a disability?
If you have a disability and are worried about getting to a table please let us know in advance and we can look to reserve a table for you where you will have the space or access you need. In addition, let us know if there are things you find challenging and we can look to make sure we recommend the right games for you to ensure you have a great time.
